BACKGROUND

Kim Steven LaValley has been involved in the legal profession and business since he was very young, and over the years has developed a good understanding of how the opposition thinks and works, how to assert positions to maximize impact and how the “system” works.

• He has many years of management and Human Resource experience in the private business sector, including a PHR Certification (Professional in Human Resource) awarded by the prestigious national Society for Human Resource Management, Human Resource Certification Institute.
• He worked as a Deputy Public Defender in Humboldt County representing clients in a wide range of cases, from Juvenile Law and Involuntary Confinement cases, through serious felony trial work. In private practice, Kim LaValley also successfully defended a very wide variety of criminal and administrative licensing/disciplinary cases.
• He has also focused many years of his practice on Worker’s Compensation claims, State licensing issues, disability law and labor law. 
• He worked for private attorneys and for the L.A. County Courts, performing clerical work during high school.
• He founded, opened and owned a legal services business LAVALLEY JURY INVESTIGATIONS, (a jury investigation company) to put himself through college at the University of the Pacific.
• He clerked for law firms while in law school at Hastings College of the Law (the autonomous University of California law school in San Francisco.)
• He graduated from Law School in 1976, passed the Bar Exam that year, and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1977. 
• He has been married for 30 years, raising 4 children and for many years, participated in community service organizations, locally and nationally
• He is the son of a prominent criminal defense attorney in Southern California and was exposed to the legal profession, judges and the atmosphere of serious litigation since he was very young.

Having relocated to the north shore of Lake Tahoe in 1995, he now stands ready to represent clients in all California law matters, in all jurisdictions.  He is licensed in all California courts as well as the Federal District courts and is licensed to appear in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.  He can also appear in Federal Courts in Nevada on a pro hac vice basis.
